ceaseless striving
September 01, 2014

Michael Foley’s Age of Absurdity (a book I am very much taken with) identifies certain strategies, though I prefer to use the word practices – that are universal and long understood as contributing to the living of a better life. One of these is to live a life of striving and effort.

So much wisdom is captured here.

That we humans must be active and be doing things as this is how we learn and are able to experience control. That ceaseless striving reflects the truth that change and movement are the essence of all our lives – that nothing ever stays the same and there are always beginnings and endings. And that much of the emotional energy for this essential striving will be quite subtle and not altogether pleasant – such as feelings of disappointment, dissatisfaction, unease and struggle.

best wishes
