Driven by more, not less
November 02, 2015

In last week’s newsletter I posed a question “Should we encourage the idea of a single purpose to drive our action? Does this lead to obsession and limitation or is it what we need to get anything done?"

The answer is of course a little bit of both – as a lot will depend on circumstances. But for most of us for most of the time we will need awareness of something more – of our other purposes and the purposes of others and indeed much more besides. We do need to keep our attention open to many possibilities outside the main focus of our attention at that time. A single minded focus is a short term thing – like a hundred meter dash for the bus or maybe 20 meters is all that can be managed?

Solitude offers me a variety of its own forms of companionship everyday.
The dependable silence of my room, the steadfast quietude and serenity of the evenings.
The promise that I would find things where I left them, that there would be no interruption, no surprise.
It welcomes me at the end of each day and lay still with me at night.
In the silence of the darkest time before each sunrise it comforts me and whispers into my ears...soon again there will be day light so get lost in the amazing symphony and endless beauty of the universe.
Smile and know in your heart that everything is going to be alright.

Sophia is a beautiful writer and I am happily sharing her work in my Feelbetter Newsletter.
