detaching for wisdom
September 08, 2014

We can only detach from our emotions when these are calm - calm but still there of course. And then we can stand back and observe them and perhaps understand what they might be saying to us at that particular moment. Such understanding is always partial, tentative and provisional because only as we detach, we will discover that we know nothing with complete certainty.

I find so much of my work with clients is to explore with them what their emotions might be usefully saying to them. But that requires that they can be calm enough to hear them and decide whether they are useful or can be safely dismissed.

best wishes
