Doing the Right Thing
October 19, 2015

I am a big fan of Foyle’s War and have watched most of the episodes a number of times. I recall one early episode when a wife shot her husband dead – he was cruel and domineering and had killed a small boy because that small boy had learnt something secret about him. And when Foyle came round to arrest her she said this or words to that effect “At that moment I hated him but that was not why I shot him. I shot him because it was the right thing to do”.

I hasten to add that I am not recommending that shooting people dead is often the right thing to do – whatever the provocation. But “doing the right thing” - how many of us are strongly motivated in our lives to be doing just that? And to know that we do this, not because we expect any reward or benefit – but just that it is the right thing?

    I had a dream
That honeybees were making honey in my heart...
    Out of my old failures.
There is no right or wrong
Beyond the right and the wrong
There is a field of golden dreams..
And I shall meet you there.....

Sophia is a beautiful writer and I am happily sharing her work in my Feelbetter Newsletter.
