There is Time and Real Time
September 23, 2013

Another guide to meaning follows, this time from the Greek. It is the two words for time – chronos and kairos. Chronos is what we normally mean by time. This is chronological time, which drives and rules us for much of our lives.

Kairos though is much more important. It is the moments which are meaningful, all in the present and which we recognise in hindsight have meaning and which define us. It could be part of our day, our week, our month, our year or our lifetime.

It will be a clarity brought on often by pain, uncertainty or crisis. Kairos force us to be absolutely present: to ourselves, to God and to the experience of reality that we’re facing.

  • What kairos moments are happening right now in your own life?
  • What kairos moments are present in the lives of people around you?
  • How can you help walk beside them and help them steward that kairos moment well?
