Is satisfaction the opposite of dissatisfaction?
November 25, 2013

I have argued that to be dissatisfied is an essential emotion for humans as it has been the energy and motivation for so much – ideas, inventions, new ways to do things, all or most driven by our imagination.

But what of satisfaction – which is presumably the desired outcome which is fueled by dissatisfaction? I would say that it is the opposite in this obvious sense but it is not symmetrically so. For while dissatisfaction can stay with us for a long period of time (on and off but largely on), satisfaction is fleeting and temporary – or at least it should be.

best wishes
